Sources
The desk works from primary sources first: the law, the code, and the official portal for the place in question.
- Regulation (EU) 2024/1028, EUR-Lex: the EU short-term rental registration framework, applied from 20 May 2026.
- City and state official portals: New York City Office of Special Enforcement, Los Angeles Planning, San Francisco Office of Short-Term Rentals, Austin development services, Houston administration, Miami and Orlando city portals, and the equivalent portals for every jurisdiction covered.
- National official guidance: GOV.UK for England, the Scottish Government for Scotland, Government of Canada and British Columbia provincial pages for Canada, and Dubai Economy and Tourism for Dubai holiday homes.
- Ireland: the Short Term Letting and Tourism Bill, published 6 October 2026, and Failte Ireland, whose short-term letting register opens 1 December 2026 with registration mandatory by 31 December 2026.
- France: service-public.fr and mairie portals for Declaloc registration under loi Le Meur.
Every guide lists its own sources at its foot. A source listed there is the authority for that guide, and a figure quoted there carries the date it was checked.
